After divorce of the parents court has the right to decide who should get the child custody. The judge of the family court can give sole custody to a parent or joint legal custody to both parents. In sole custody a parent has all the rights to make any decision about the child’s health, welfare, upbringing without consulting the other parent.

The child’s physical placement is with the parent having sole custody. The parent has complete right to decide about the child’s medical, health and other records. In law of joint custody both the parents are equally involved in making any major decision about the child like his medical and religious welfare, education and many others.
Joint custody is only feasible when both the parents have some level of communication between them. According to the court law in joint custody one parent gets the child’s physical placement, means where the child will live on a day basis. It is also known as physical custody. And the other parent will have reasonable visitation rights. So for child custody you can apply for any type of custody.
